Everything that has to be right before you hit Submit — including the handful of fields that quietly block submission and the ones that quietly get you rejected.

Screenshots

One iPhone set at the largest size you support. Apple scales it down for smaller devices — you don't need every size. Dimensions → An iPad set at 13″, if your app runs on iPad. Apple won't reuse your iPhone images. Screenshot one carries the whole pitch. Only the first two or three appear in search results. Captions readable at thumbnail size. Shrink to ~2cm wide and read from arm's length. Captions say what the user gets, not what the screen is called. Not "Dashboard" — "See where your money went." Each localization has its own set. English screenshots in every market is the most common conversion leak. You've looked at every language's export. Translated text runs longer and breaks layouts — German especially.

Indexed metadata

App name ≤ 30 characters, and not a keyword-stuffed search query. Subtitle ≤ 30 characters, adding new benefit words rather than restating the name. Keyword field ≤ 100 characters, comma-separated with no spaces after commas. No word repeated across name, subtitle and keywords — Apple counts each once. Free checker → Description written for humans. Apple doesn't index it — it's a conversion asset, not a ranking one. Promotional text used for what changes. It's the only copy you can edit without a new build. The English variants are filled in (UK, AU, CA). Each is a separate localization with its own keyword field.

Store details

Support URL — required, and it must actually resolve. Privacy policy URL — required, shown on your product page. Marketing URL — optional, but it's free credibility. Version and copyright set correctly for this release. Primary and secondary category chosen deliberately, not left on the default. Privacy nutrition labels match what your app genuinely collects.

App Review — the submission blockers

These are the ones that leave "Add for Review" greyed out at 6pm on a Friday.

App Review contact — first name, last name, email, phone. Demo account credentials, if anything sits behind a login. Review will reject without them. Notes for the reviewer explaining anything non-obvious — hardware needs, region locks, how to reach the key feature. Content rights declaration answered. Age rating questionnaire completed. Pricing and availability set. Export compliance answered (encryption).

Rejection triggers worth pre-empting

No price references in metadata. "Free", "50% off", "$4.99/month" in screenshots or description trips Guideline 2.3.7 — pricing lives in App Store Connect, not your copy. Your listing doesn't look like the category template. Visual sameness is a Guideline 4.3 signal. Screenshots show your real interface, not stock illustrations or concept art. No competitor brand names in your keywords. It's a trademark issue. Nothing promises features the build doesn't have. Review checks the claims against the app. A demo video ready if your value isn't obvious from the listing. Reviewers ask constantly — volunteering it saves a round trip. Every enabled localization is complete. A half-translated listing looks broken and invites scrutiny.
